swackett X — weather, fashion and fun App Reviews
I bought both Weather + and Swackett X both for $3.99… Weather + is a bloated sucktastic waste and I was not a happy camper. Swackett X on the other hand renewed my faith in humanity!! SWACKETT X IS ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. It is smooth, functional, and truly gorgeous. Fantastic attention to detail… truly truly a superbly written app!! Bravo!!!!
If you real want the more detailed report, one can scroll on down the page for the nifty radars. I use it on my MacBook Pro, but I could see using this for children so they can gather their coats and hats while while the grown up searches for that missing left boot.
I have tried many weather apps on both Macs and PCs. This app blows them all away. I originally tried out the free edition and was so happy with what you got at no cost that I decided to plunk down the $3 to get the upgrade. Fantastic app.
I have never written a review before, but I love this app so much I just have to! Its easy to understand, great graphics, and its just too cute. I love the peeps! They really make me smile. Especially the "easter egg" peeps! :) Great app all around.
Ive been running this on a Core 2 Duo / 2.66 Ghz and 8 GB of RAM - and it will use 40% - 50% of my system resources. Sure, it is a pretty app, but I do not think the graphical return is worth the slowdown in my system and the incessant whine of cooling fans. Hope they can get the footprint lower so I can use it while on battery power or when other apps are concurrently running.
I love the look of this app, but the large graphics just dont work well on my 11" MBA. There is a lot of wasted space that could be reworked to fit more info without the need to scroll so much. At the very least, please add an option to hide the big toolbar at the bottom (and preferably also the black bar at the top) to free up more space for the main screen. I rarely ever access the toolbar so would much prefer to be able to see more of the actual content. Consider either moving those features to the regular Apple menu bar or integrate them into the main screen somehow (theres plenty of wasted space to the right of the Swackett logo you could put buttons, tabs, etc). Really, the only ones you would need are Locations, Watches, and Warnings, I could care less about Info and Support - they should just be up in the normal menu bar under "Help". Settings is already in the normal menubar and you can access the store through there, so those are redundant. Similarly, in full screen mode, please either resize, let me hide, or preferably remove altogether the bottom toolbar - its huge! Way too big for small screens. It hides about 1/8th of the screen. Also in full screen, the logo at the top takes another 1/8th of the screen. Please either remove it or at least make it 1/4 the size. I know what app Im using, theres no reason to smack me in the face with it!
good to get
This app is fun and informative. Easy to use and when placed on the doc the weather is just a click away. Get it.
First off, this app is definitely a success visually, and it has a lot of information too. There are a couple of additions Id make though: I like the fact that you can adjust the parameters for what makes a temperature "hot" or "cold," so the app can choose the clothing animation. However, where I live 70 degrees during the winter is a whole different story than 70 degrees during the summer, so the ability to adjust these parameters on a seasonal basis would be a welcome addition! Additionally, a bit more detail on the extended forcast would be great too! Keep up the good work!
I had the free version, but decided to upgrade to swackett X, hoping to get rid of the ads and use it full-screen in OS X Lion. The full-screen worked perfectly, but it still has ads that cover up the main forecast! If I paid for this app, why does it still have ads?
Why did I have to pay money this app if its still going to display ads to me? They could easily save 1" band of screen space by dropping the ads. performance is slow, and the forecasts arent entirely accurate (said today was cloudy and raining, sun is shining and it is very low humidity) not sure where they are getting them from. menu bar option is very basic. if you wan cute graphic, inaccurate forecasts and bare frills, get this app. otherwise get a more serious weather app life weatherman. overall, very disappointing and i would not recommend this to anyone.
1. Retina graphics for the retina macbook pro 2. I usually leave Swackett X open as its own window in Mission Control, but the thing is, the temperatures dont automatically update. Like when I return to the app, I have to press the reload button to update everything. A minor inconvenience, but hey it would be nice if it was gone. 3. Going along with #2, I am 90% sure that the temperature in the status bar does not update either while the app is open for prolonged periods of time. Am I wrong?
Good app; maybe a little overpriced
The app is pretty, but its not that different than the free swackett. (when running snow leopard)
Its really nice. If youre considering other weather apps, dont. I was going back and forth with a couple of other paid apps, settled on this one, and Im very very glad I did. Full Mode looks awesome, and the color scheme is a sweet touch.
I absolutely fell in love with Swackett the first time I tried it. Compared to all the other boring weather apps out there, this one makes things fun and quirky while staying pretty accurate too. The default weather outfits are pretty good but the in-purchase ones that are available are even better (I recommend the British Invasion ones!). Im a huge fan of their easter eggs, too. They have an amazingly talented team of artists. If you keep it in the background, be sure to uncheck the option to use animations in the background and youll get a much better experience (you can also turn off the animations all together - but theyre so cute, who wants to do that?) Try it for yourself - between the Mac app and the iPhone app, Swackett makes weather fun!
Overall one of the, if not THE best weather app out there. The only thing its missing is being able to pan the radar and satellite pictures around, and the satellite pic does look a little rough. Other than that a real treat, especially the easter egg peeps and surprises they have in store for you :)
This app is excellent, and very easy to read. One addition I would like to see is the ability to see the temperature for all locations in the menu bar drop down. Other than that, this is a very good app, and well worth the money.
Love this app
Works and looks great! I use it everyday. It’s one of my favorite apps.
I emailed the developed twice about the teeny tiny 8 point text used for the storm warnings. Minutes after I emailed a product manager emailed back saying, wow, that really is small. Thats no big deal we can change it right away, Nothing happened. So I replied to his reply months later, asking what happened with this change. No response. My conclusion: Swackett X app features a solid functionality and an unresponsive developer.
Good, but Retina?
The app works great functionally for me, but the graphics look sad on my retina mac screen. Maybe implement retina support?
